I've seen the tags widget on the home page and seen that authors can set tags for the thread.
Do we really need tags? I've never used them - wether for search or tagging my threads.
Instead I would favor a better search, possibly with autosuggest/-complete while typing.
Something like algolia. I don't know if this qualifies for https://docsearch.algolia.com/ but https://www.algolia.com/solutions/site-search/ free plan could also be enough. If we pass the free limits they are possibly willing to sponsor this project.
Or the forum software itself has some fancy cool ways for improved search.
Regarding the search I would also favor a search based on thread instead of posts - possibly linking all post hits in the thread snippet.
If I search for "tree" https://webwide.io/threads/refer-a-friend-plant-a-tree.636 is linked 3 times, instead the amount of hits could be used to make the thread more relevant for thsi search request and have links to all posts in the snippet.
