Hey,
This reminded me of something called the impossible list which I've thought was quite neat.

It's a way to make your larger goals public on your website, which would be inspiring to you and others maybe? While also holding you accountable to yourself. The word impossible implies that the goals are quite large in scope, and work as a motivating factor for yourself to keep an eye on the big prize.

An example:
Impossible List • Aaron Durant (no affiliation)

Searching for "impossible list" brings up a huge list of results, infact I couldn't even find the originator again which is a shame.

Hey!
Thanks for the input. I didn't know about impossible lists, but checked it out and really like them! I am just writing my own one and its already very inspiring. A few items:

  • Building a website for a mathematician
  • Building a website for a philosopher
  • Building a website for a cinema
  • Building a website for a film director
  • Selling postcards
  • Having a own commercial in a cinema
  • Doing an art exhibition

and much more.

@Dominic really cool! Might be fun to have to pick a random item from x number of lists as an additional form of inspiration - for example, "28 Days Later" + "Bebas Neue" + "Die Antwoord" = ...? something inspiring maybe? :P

@sharegrams never heard of an impossible list but I LOVE the concept, I'm doing this. I think it says a lot about your personality too, which goals and which kinds of goals you have.

- web art piece which is purposefully hard to read/navigate
- teach a network of local kids HTML
- ride bike in amsterdam
- bike across europe
- own a sheepskin rug
- build tiny house
- hike 50% of the trails in my province on AllTrails
- draw a graphic novel
- release ukulele/electronic album
- visit singapore, thailand, south korea
- live as a visible minority for at least a month
- ....!

  • moving up when scrolling down?
  • totally unexpected link targets?
  • the whole page rotates all few seconds?

Yes! Including that. @Adam maybe for a Webwide community challenge? Exhibit your knowledge of the rules of interaction design by breaking them all?

I like it! I had a similar idea for back-end folks to achieve a simple task in the most complicated way possible. 😆

One could use such random triples of items as input for a new piece of art.
For example: Use a scene from 28 days later, combine it with a song from
from die antwoord and blend in text in bebas neue. What a combo! :)

JavaScript:
var opacity = 1;
var increment = 0.1;

if ( opacity > 0 ) {
    setInterval(function() {
        opacity -= increment;
        $("body").css("opacity", opacity);
    }, 600);
}

This could start when clicking on the «Win 1 Million Dollars!» button.

This could start when clicking on the «Win 1 Million Dollars!» button.

"Follow the following instructions to claim your prize! 1) Jump up and down 40 times. 2) Say the alphabet backwards, and inside out. 3) give us 1 million and one dollars"
